Ophthalmology

Woman's EyeOphthalmology is the medical specialty that deals with the anatomy, function, pathology and treatment of the eye.  An ophthalmologist treats eye disorders, including injuries, infections, tumors, and cataracts.  The word ophthalmology comes from the Greek roots ophthalmos meaning "eye" and logos meaning "word"; ophthalmology literally means "the science of eyes".

Emergent injuries to the eye can be treated in our emergency department with consultation by ophthalmologists on our medical staff.  Additionally, Santa Fe recently welcomed a new eye surgeon, Dr. Seligson, who specializes in vitreoretinal surgery.

"I had a problem that wasn't detected by other doctors, but Dr. Seligson found the macular hole and operated on me. Thanks to that my vision came back considerably. He is a very caring individual and his staff is great. I would recommend him to anybody."
