Nephrology

Nephrology is the branch of internal medicine that studies the function and diseases of the kidney and related organs.   A nephrologist specializes in diagnosing and treating problems with kidneys, high blood pressure, fluid retention, and electrolyte imbalance.  The word nephrology is derived from the Greek word nephros, which means "kidney", and the suffix -ology, or "study of".
