CHRISTUS® St. Vincent Regional Medical Center

Heart & Vascular Center“Top 20”

Woman NurseThat’s the national ranking of CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional’s Heart and Vascular program in a recent study by the Duke Clinical Research Institute, an academic research organization affiliated with Duke University Medical Center. CHRISTUS St. Vincent was identified as a leader in providing a high standard of care for patients with acute coronary syndromes. Out of 504 participating hospitals nationwide, CHRISTUS St. Vincent Hospital ranked in the top 20. CHRISTUS St. Vincent was noted for consistently practicing high-quality, evidenced-based medicine for high-risk cardiac patients. The award would not be possible without the close collaboration between CHRISTUS St. Vincent, and our physician partners with NM Heart Institute.

Heart disease is northern New Mexico’s number one health crisis, affecting 55 percent of the adult population and killing one in every four. But thanks to the nationally recognized care provided by the Santa Fe Heart and Vascular Center of CHRISTUS St. Vincent Hospital and the physicians of the New Mexico Heart Institute, there is hope.

CHRISTUS St. Vincent is where I choose to practice medicine…

“When having a heart attack, there is no time to waste in seeking definitive treatment. Time is heart muscle – the quicker we can get the patient into the cardiac cath lab for coronary intervention, the better the patient’s outcome – Guaranteed.”

Brad Stamm, MD, NMHI

Northern New Mexico has Nation’s First Rural EKG Network

Another way CHRISTUS St. Vincent Hospital is working to improve outcomes for heart-attack patients is by supplying rural EMS personnel with the ability to transmit an electrocardiogram (EKG) from the scene of a chest pain emergency directly to an on-call Santa Fe cardiologist for immediate consultation, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The EKG Network's rapid-fire approach will help save time, a precious commodity when heart attacks start and a heart muscle deteriorates. Less muscle is going to die, which is especially challenging in rural areas such as Raton."

— David Pasquale, chief of Raton's Fire and Emergency Services Department

“Because of how quickly CHRISTUS St. Vincent took care of me, and how they took care of me when I was having a heart attack, I have no permanent heart damage today.“

— Jaime Estremera-Fitzgerald, Radio news director and healthcare advocate
