Foundation To Assist in Raising Funds for Renovation and Expansion of CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center ICU and CCU Unit.
CHRISTUS St. Vincent ICU and CCU Expansion and Renovation
Your support is needed to help us raise $15,000,000 to expand and renovate one of the most important areas of our regional hospital – the ICU and CCU. The Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Unit is a section in hospitals that contain specialized equipment and highly trained staff to treat patients who have a serious injury or illness. Patients are admitted to the ICU from the emergency room or other hospital sections, after surgery, or after transfer from another health care facility.
In planning for this expansion, several factors were considered:
CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s impending step-up from a Level III Trauma Center to a Level II Trauma Center – a rigorous transformation and progress toward the emergency quality healthcare people living in this region expect and deserve.
Another factor considered is our growing elderly population, and the need for more beds to treat cardio vascular problems, neuro complications, cardio thoracic issues, renal failures, attempted suicides, acute care for the elderly, and pneumonias in addition to other complicated injuries or illnesses.
When complete, the unit will grow from 18 to 24 beds – each two rooms will have total a skillfully trained nurse stationed directly outside and between two patient rooms where they can monitor and chart changes immediately into electronic medical records for review by a physician.
Finally, the Hospital will hire more specialized and dedicated physicians meaning 24 -7 in-house coverage.
When this expansion is complete, rooms will be larger, each having it’s own bathroom, a ceiling track to move equipment around the patient along with a lift move the patient – saving highly trained nurses from potential back injuries and eliminating patient falls. Additionally, each room will now include a sleeper chair, ensuring that those family members who opt to stay with their patient overnight have a comfortable night’s sleep.
Here Is How You Can Help!

The Board of Directors of St. Vincent Hospital Foundation as stewards of your donation assure you that all donations received by the Foundation will be used to support and improve healthcare in Northern New Mexico.

Nichos de Corazon - "Places of the Heart" Glass Block Wall Project
Big projects often start small, building block by block. At CHRISTUS St. Vincent, we're in the midst of just such a project - Our "Nichos de Corazon" Glass Block wall. Santa Fe has grown dramatically since CHRISTUS St. Vincent moved to its current location in 1977. With this growth came new patient care needs and changes in our medical practices. As a result, CHRISTUS St. Vincent is constantly modernizing its technology and expanding patient areas to meet the needs of our patients and their families.
CHRISTUS St. Vincent is a community asset originally operated by the Sisters of Charity. CHRISTUS St. Vincent has been caring for the Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico community for 140 years. Today's CHRISTUS St. Vincent is a private, non-profit, non-affiliated hospital managed by a locally directed board of trustees and operated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
While many things have changed since the days it was operated by the Sisters of Charity, one thing has remained the same...the hospital remains committed to developing, promoting and, where appropriate, providing those services necessary to restore, improve and maintain the health of individuals and the communities of Northern New Mexico. It's an enormous undertaking, but one vital to the health and healthcare of Santa Fe's families. We have to build in stages, block by block.
You can help make this possible by investing in the future of our community. Each pledge of $1,000 to the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Hospital Foundation's Nichos de Corazon Campaign buys a clear glass block in the recognition wall constructed between the Pediatric Intensive Care unit and the OB/GYN unit. Pledges can also be made by simply filling out the form and may be paid at once, or fulfilled over a two-year period.
Your block will be inscribed with your name, or the name of someone you wish to honor, with room inside to place chosen personal mementos. You can choose any object, as long as it is not perishable nor will deteriorate over time and is not greater than six inches in height, six inches in width and two-and-a-half inches in thickness. Not only will this wall serve as a standing tribute to the many generous and caring citizens whose contributions helped create these facilities for our community, it will also be a work of art to attract and enthrall future generations. A reminder to us all that great things can be accomplished when individuals come together for a common cause.
